Welcome to my Blog! I always found the idea of blogs rather strange – a little too self-indulgent for my tastes – after all, who really cares what I think about a load of nonsense that nobody likes anyway?
Two of my very good friends and teachers – one from each of my major loves in life: self-protection/martial arts and normative philosophy – have their own blogs. Dave Estlund (a phenomenal political philosopher) uses his to comment on everyday controversies using the analytical and logical tools of his academic training. Nick Hughes (a phenomenal martial artist) uses his to communicate important self-protection information using his vast experience and training. Both these guys have shaped my development – more so than either of them would probably realise!
Both blogs capture something that appeals to me. My objective is to synthesise something of these two elements. My subject is "combatives" - or in normal parlance, self-protection. It will cover low-level advice (the stuff they don't/can't teach you in class), local crime trends and specifics, training drills and advice, reflections on particular aspects of combatives, and anything pretty-much pertaining to keeping ourselves and our loved ones safe from violence in the modern world.
Be safe! (And if you can't be safe, be first).
